The inception of Universal Studios was formed in 1982 as a theme park and a working studio. It was the first time that Universal Studios had constructed an amusement park "from the ground up." It was put on hold until 1986 until co-founder of the park Steven Spielberg could meet with Peter N. Alexander, where they noticed how competitive the park could be if it could compete with nearby Walt Disney World and Seaworld.
The park features eight themed areas all situated around a large lagoon. The eight surrounding themed are Production Central, New York City, San Francisco, Springfield, Long/Diagon Alley, World Expo, Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone and Hollywood. The newest area, based on Harry Potter's Diagon Alley, was added to the park in July 2014.
